Mike Bowen’s previous NMRA experience consisted of racing in the popular Modular Muscle class from 2005-2008. He felt compelled to return to NMRA competition when reading the rules for Coyote Stock. “A lot of features of the class drew me in, the ‘affordability’ of the crate engine, the diversity of the available chassis or cars, and the fact that there are no complicated weight breaks for the different combos.”
Mike took full advantage of the range of chassis available for Coyote Stock, and his crowd-pleasing Maverick stands out from the crowd of late-model Mustangs. While the original 250 inline six is long gone, the car still wears its original bright blue paint and stripes. Mike bought the car in September of 2013 and after a winter-long thrash, he had the car ready for its competition debut in Bradenton 2014.
“The maverick required lots of custom parts. Because its not a common swap it required that I built my own headers, exhaust, cold air, and countless other parts. the rear suspension consists of a Cal-Trac split monoleaf spring, Cal-Trac traction bars with Afco shocks all the controlling the narrowed Explorer 8.8. The front was actually a bolt in tubular K-member from AJE that uses Fox Mustang splindles, QA1 coilover struts, and manual rack and pinion steering.”
The mad Maverick sports 17 contingency decals from NMRA sponsors such as Aerospace Brakes, Mickey Thompson Tires, Ford Racing, Tremec transmissions, Spec Clutches, and VP Racing Fuels.
