Hipo Joe Charles, the ‘OG’ of Coyote Stock, is the only racer to have competed at every event since the class’s inception. His engine is the first sealed 5.0 Coyote released to the public.
The Honey Badger
Joe campaigns a 2000 model body-in-white he purchased from FRPP/Roush back in 2000. While the car was originally being built, it was sold to Tim Matherly of MV Performance. Tim went on to drive the car to multiple NMRA national championships in the Real Street class.
When he heard the details about the new Coyote Stock class, Joe knew he had to be involved. He placed a call to see about using his old car for competition. Tim was campaigning a different car at that time, and immediately said yes…
…and so, the first NMRA Coyote Stock car was born.
After running the car for two years as a loaner, Joe and Tim struck a deal and the car was finally brought back to its original home. Just before the start of the 2014 season, the car was treated to a car-show-quality paint job and revivification.
Joe rows a TKO to get the car down track, and the Badger is equipped with a load of other go-fast goodies, giving Joe 14 contingencies to claim:
Aerospace Components, AIRAID, Energy Suspension, Flowmaster Exhaust, Ford Racing, Kooks Custom Headers, Mickey Thompson Tires, Moser Engineering, Racepak Data, Tremec Transmissions, VP Racing Fuel & Weldon Racing Pumps
